2022 Alera AdaptivErgo Sit-Stand Desk Review (Pros, Cons & Features)

Print/Save as PDF

Are your employees tired of sitting at work? Whether they suffer from neck discomfort or repetitive stress injuries after a long day of sitting, it can be challenging for workers to be highly engaged and productive when they’re unable to get up and move freely as needed.

Fortunately, height-adjustable desks encourage people to change postures throughout the day. Alera AdaptivErgo, for example, is a sit-stand desk that lets users set the perfect height when sitting or standing without breaking the bank.

Here at Egyptian Workspace Partners, we believe every organization should provide its employees with height-adjustable desks that provide health-related benefits, so they have solutions that not only provide their body with ergonomic support but also promote their overall wellbeing.

In this article, we’ll break down everything you need to know about Alera AdaptivErgo, including its pros, cons and key features, so you can decide if it’s the right solution for you and your team.

Key Features of Alera AdaptivErgo

Pneumatic Controls

With AdaptivErgothere’s no need for digital controllers. It has a pneumatic control lift-assist trigger underneath the top, which you can either press up or down with both hands to move the table up or down.

Locking Casters

The easy-to-attach locking casters make it easy to move the AdaptivErgo so employees can work in a broad ecosystem of zones, whether it be an office, conference room or huddle space. As an optional feature, the casters are an additional cost.

Pros of Alera AdaptivErgo

Designed for Most Users

AdaptivErgo has a standard height range of 26 ¼” to 39 3/8” to accommodate the 5th percentile seated female to the 95th percentile standing male.

If you’re on a tight budget but need a height-adjustable desk, AdaptivErgo is an affordable option to consider. Including the top and table base, it costs around $400 altogether.

Build Quality

AdaptivErgo is compliant with ANSI/BIFMA standards for the safety, durability and structural performance of desk and table products intended for commercial office use, and undergoes a rigorous series of performance tests to ensure it will stand the test of time.

The table base is recommended for up to 100-lb. capacity, including the weight of the worksurface. It also comes with adjustable leveling glides to compensate for uneven floors, and a strong steel frame with cross bars to provide stability and prevent racking.

Cons of Alera AdaptivErgo

Weight Capacity

As mentioned above, AdaptivErgo has a 100-lb. limit, including the weight of the worksurface. It lacks the weight capacity of other height-adjustable desks on the market, which can range anywhere from 200 lbs. to 500 lbs.

Not Recyclable

AdaptivErgo is made of zero percent total recycled content and not recyclable. If you care about sustainability, you should consider a desk that’s made of recycled content and has materials that can be recycled at the end of its life.

Components Sold and Shipped Separately

The AdaptivErgo top and table base are sold and shipped separately. When it’s time to place your order, you need to remember to order both pieces, and keep in mind they may not arrive at the same time, which can be a problem if you need something right away.

Alera AdaptivErgo Warranty Information

AdaptivErgo is covered by a limited five-year warranty that doesn’t apply to normal wear and tear, customer modification, products used for rental purposes or improper installation and use.

Alera AdaptivErgo Customization Options

Unlike other height-adjustable solutionsAdaptivErgo offers little customization options. The table base only comes in black, and the rectangular top is only available in white or grey. Additional features are limited to optional floor casters in black.

Is Alera AdaptivErgo Right for You?

If you’re looking for a height-adjustable desk with ergonomic features and simple functionality, Alera AdaptivErgo is a great choice. While it lacks some of the bells and whistles that other sit-stand desks have, it does come with easy-to-use controls and a price tag that’s attainable for everyone.

StillAdaptivErgo is priced similarly to AMQ ACTIV, which has better features and customization options. If you want a sit-stand desk with high-end features like digital controls or obstruction detection, you may want to consider ACTIV, Steelcase Migration SE or Steelcase Ology instead.
