Floor Mats for Commercial & Industrial Facilities

Slip and fall accidents account for 85% of workers' compensation claims. You can avoid being part of this statistic by doing one very simple thing: placing the right floor mats strategically throughout your workplace.

It’s not just office complexes that are at risk. Floor and entrance mats are the first line of defense for any workplace that has foot traffic, including:

  • Hospitals
  • Offices
  • Schools
  • Restaurants
  • Casinos
  • Retail Stores
  • Manufacturing Facilities

Types of Floor Mats

Choosing the right mat will not only protect your employees and customers. It can also complement your space and promote your brand. The important thing is to choose a mat based on the job you want it to do—this will determine the material and type of mat you need.

Materials: Carpet, rubber, polypropylene, polyester, PVC

Features: Scraping ability, wiping ability, crush resistance, traction, durability, comfort

Industrial Floor Mats

These mats are essential in keeping workers safe. Highly durable, they provide increased traction in tough environments. An open-edge design allows water, chemicals, and other debris to flow off the mat. This maintains both the integrity of the mat and increases worker safety. For workers who stand for long periods of time, the ergonomic design increases energy and comfort.

Food Service Floor Mats

Floor mats for the foodservice industry have a unique design: they are perforated. Commercial kitchens an incredible volume of spilled water, food, grease, and other liquids. The holes in this mat are designed to increase worker safety by allowing these elements to pass through the mat to the floor beneath. This eliminated the threat of slipping and tripping over debris. At the end of the shift, the mats are lifted and the floor beneath can be properly cleaned to maintain sanitary standards.

Commercial Floor Mats

Commercial floor mats are an umbrella category for safety mats. The different types can be placed in specific and strategic locations around your workplace.

Outdoor Entrance Mats

This is the first thing your employees and guests will walk over upon entering your building. It's this mat’s job to stop the majority of dirt and other elements from coming into your facility. They are also what prevents slip & falls outside your entrance during icy conditions.

Indoor Entrance Mats

Like its outdoor counterpart, this mat’s job is to keep your facility clean. Having this mat inside your door will remove excess dirt and debris from the soles of your employees’ and guests’ shoes. Indoor entrance mats are the difference between a clean lobby and a trail of muddy footprints tracked through it.

Anti-Fatigue Mats

These are exceptional for any worker standing on his or her feet for an extended period of time. Their cushioned design gives ergonomic support to the body. This allows your staff to work comfortably for extended periods of time. These work great behind cash registers or areas that may be inclined to have water, like pools or spas.

Ideal for hospitals, hotels, or spas restroom mats is more than a courtesy item for your guests. Their design minimizes water tracked throughout the space, reducing the likelihood of a slip and fall accident. Branded Floor Mats

Branded floor mats can be used as interior entrance mats or even in front of your reception counter. They can have your company name, logo, and colors. When guests see a branded mat, the impression they get is that you run a business with confidence.

Floor Mat Size

One of the mistakes many businesses make is that they order the wrong size mat for their space. Too large and you have a tripping hazard. Too small and you risk not only slips and falls from inadequate coverage but exponentially increased wear on the mat and debris on your floor. You can save time, money, and headaches by measuring the space first.

Once you know the right size you need, you can either order a stocked size mat or you can have one custom made. Our mat manufacturers can cut the mat you need to exact size for your space.

Typical standard sizes include:

  • 2x3
  • 3x10
  • 3x4
  • 3x5
  • 4x10
  • 4x60

How much do Floor Mats Cost?

There are two basic ways you can purchase floor mats:

Renting floor mats usually means a "low monthly fee."  This can seem like a good deal upfront with no capital investment.  You sign up for the service and you never have to think about it again.  The dirty mats are picked up regularly and clean mats are installed.  About six months down the road you pull out the invoices and the "low monthly fee" is not quite as cost-effective as you thought.  Typically rented mats are very low quality or "throwaway" type mats.  They are designed to become grimy in a short window so you see the value in the rental service.  The ends tend to roll up and the entire reason you rented the mats (to help keep the facility clean and safe by preventing slips) is lost.

Purchasing high-quality floor mats is a more cost-effective approach.  These mats are much more durable and designed to last years, not months.  The picture below illustrates a cost comparison between renting and buying mats.  If your facility utilizes many mats, we suggest leasing (not renting) the mats so you do not have a capital expenditure but rather allows you to recognize your cost of the mats monthly at a fraction of the price of rental mats.
